What is heat shrink tubing?
Heat shrink tubing is a type of tube that shrinks when heated and is mainly widely used for protecting and insulating wires and other purposes. Heat shrink tubes are made of high-molecular-weight polymers, which have the property of shrinking when heated but still maintaining their flexibility. During the pipe-making process, polymers are exposed to electron beam irradiation, causing cross-linking reactions. The cross-linked tubes become hard after being heated and stretched, and will shrink and return to their original state when reheated. Its main uses include internal wiring for household appliances, internal wiring for electronic products, power wiring for industrial equipment, automotive wiring harnesses, laparoscopic surgical equipment, etc.
According to their different structures, heat shrink tubes are roughly divided into single-layer heat shrink tubes and double-layer heat shrink tubes. Single-layer heat shrink tubing is classified into "thin-walled", "medium-walled" and "thick-walled" according to the thickness of the tube. It is mainly used for insulation or partial protection and is available in a variety of colors for easy identification. Double-layer heat shrink tubing is composed of an inner layer and an outer layer. It is used for electrical insulation and mechanical protection, and sometimes for moisture-proofing and anti-corrosion. It is also sold in a variety of colors.

What material is heat shrink tubing made of?
Different types of heat shrink tube materials
Heat shrink tubing is mainly made of materials such as PVC, PE, PTFE, EPDM, FEP and silicone. Which material is better depends on the specific application scenarios and requirements:
PVC heat shrink tubing: Widely used due to its thin wall and low cost, it has good acid resistance and corrosion resistance, and is suitable for safety protection of the insulation layer of rechargeable batteries.
PE heat shrink tubing: It is often used for the maintenance of household appliances or electronic components. Through blending, it can be made into outdoor cable heat shrink tubing with high compressive strength and anti-aging properties.
PTFE heat shrink tubing: It can withstand high temperatures up to 260℃ and resist the corrosion of most analytical chemical organic solutions. It has high wear resistance and anti-fracture toughness.
EPDM heat shrink tubing: It features excellent physical properties and wear resistance, and is mainly used for the maintenance and care of cable sheaths for entire vehicle wiring harnesses and electronic components.
FEP heat shrink tubing: Due to its excellent wear resistance and non-flammability, as well as similar properties to polytetrafluoroethylene, it is often used in applications that require good processing performance of thermoplastics.
Silicone heat shrink tubing: It is suitable for fields such as medical machinery, electrical products, aerospace, military industry, automobiles, electronic components, transformers and engines, etc. These fields have certain requirements for the plasticity and temperature resistance of wires and cables.
